SUMMARY:MASc Oral Exam|Biointerface Topography for Enhanced Nonviral Gene\n
 Delivery by Abigail Conner
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:In a closed MASc Oral Exam Abigail Conner will be discussing he
r\nresearch.\n\nAbstract: Biomaterial-mediated nonviral gene delivery has
gained\nrecent interest due to its potential to facilitate localized\ntran
sfection while providing scaffolding for regenerating tissues.\nSurface to
pography can also be incorporated onto the biointerface to\nprime cells fo
 r transfection. In this thesis\, a\nchitosan-polyethyleneimine (CS-PEI) co
polymer is used as a gene\ncarrier for plasmid DNA and microRNA. The use o
f topography to enhance\nCS-PEI transfection is explored in multiple conte
xts\, with an emphasis\non vascular tissue engineering applications.
