SUMMARY:MASc Final Exam\\ Cellulose Nanocrystal Coated Paraffin Wax Coating
for\nFog and Dew Water Harvesting by Riyao Yan
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Thesis Title: Cellulose Nanocrystal Coated Paraffin Wax Coating
for\nFog and Dew Water Harvesting\n\nAbstract:\n\nFresh water scarcity is
an urgent global issue. A sustainable and\nrenewable method is harvesting
atmospheric water\, among which fog and\ndew water can be passively colle
cted onto a surface. The efficiency of\nsuch collecting systems depends cr
itically on the wetting and dynamic\nbehavior of water droplets on the sur
face. Common approaches to modify\nsurface topography and hydrophobicity o
ften relies on lithographic\,\nplasma\, or fluoropolymer-based methods tha
 t are costly\, complex\, and\nenvironmentally unsustainable. In contrast\,
this work proposes a\nnovel\, simple\, and bottom-up approach for produci
ng surface with\nfunctional coatings through cellulose nanocrystal (CNC)
 –stabilized\nPickering emulsions.
