SUMMARY:PARK AND VEVA REILLY DISTINGUISHED SEMINAR - “Genetic and Metabol
ic\nEngineering of Clostridium pasteurianum for Production of Butanol as a
 \nRenewable Biofuel” by Michael Pyne\, PhD\, Post-Doctoral Fellow\,\nUni
 versity of Waterloo
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:(PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT SIGNING A NDA WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ATTE
 NDING\nTHIS SEMINAR)\n\nABSTRACT:  The Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol (ABE) ferm
entation by\nanaerobic bacteria from the genus _Clostridium_ was one of th
 e first\nlarge-scale industrial bioprocesses\, operating globally for the\
nproduction of acetone during the first half of the 20th Century.\nFeedsto
ck and product recovery costs prevented the ABE process from\nremaining pr
ofitable and acetone production was overtaken by the\ndeveloping petroleum
  industry.
