SUMMARY:Park and Veva Reilly Distinguished Seminar - \"Silicon Based\nNano-
 Architectures for Advanced Lithium-Ion Batteries\" by Fathy M.\nHassan\, D
epartment of Chemical Engineering\, University of Waterloo
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION: ABSTRACT:  Silicon has the potential to revolutionize the en
ergy\nstorage capacities of lithium ion batteries\, propelling their\ncapa
bilities to meet the ever increasing power demands of next\ngeneration tec
hnologies. Silicon has a huge energy storage capacity\n(4200 mAh/g)\, ten
times higher than the conventionally used graphite\nmaterials (372 mAh/g).
To avoid the operational stability problems\nassociated with the use of s
 ilicon-based anodes\, the electrode\nstructure needs to be architectured o
 n the nanoscale.
