SUMMARY:Seminar - “Production of Polyglutamic Acid Nanoparticles for\nCon
trolled Release of Anti-Cancer Drugs” by Dr. Argyrios Margaritis\,\nProf
essor of Biochemical Engineering\, Dept. of Chemical and\nBiochemical Engi
 neering\, University of Western Ontario\, London\,ON
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT:  In this work we present results on the use of\nGamm
a-Polyglutamic Acid (PGA) biopolymer to produce nanoparticles and\nencapsu
late the anti-cancer drug Doxorubicin (DOX). Microbially\nproduced PGA is
used alone and in combination with Chitosan (CS) to\nform DOX-loaded nanop
articles at different conditions. The main\nmechanism of nanoparticle form
ation is the ionic complexation between\nPGA\, DOX and CS.
