SUMMARY:Seminar - “Biomimetic Membranes Based on Aquaporin Z for Water\nP
urification”\, TONG Yen Wah\, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular\nE
 ngineering\, National University of Singapore
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT:  The regulation of intracellular water activity is a
\nnecessary characteristic of many physiological functions in all living\n
organisms. The high water transport rate across cell membranes is due\nto
a type of water channel protein\, aquaporin. The unique selectivity\,\nhig
h water transport capability\, and low activation energy of\naquaporins ha
ve garnered strong scientific interests with many studies\nconcentrating o
n the fabrication of biomimetic membranes based on the\nreconstitution of
aquaporins into self-assembled amphiphilic lipid or\npolymer bilayers.
