SUMMARY:Molecularly engineered carbon conjugates for electrochemical\nappli
 cations Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:MOLECULARLY ENGINEERED CARBON CONJUGATES FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL\nA
 PPLICATIONS\n\nPART I: CARBON-GRAFTED POLYMERS FOR ELECTROCHEMICAL ENERGY
STORAGE IN\nSUPERCAPACITORS\n\nCarbon-based nanomaterials are key componen
ts in energy storage\ndevices. Their functions can be tailored by adjustin
g or developing\nnew synthesis pathways. Our studies in this area are focu
 sed on living\nradical polymerization techniques\, an electrochemically-ai
 ded atom\ntransfer radical polymerization (e-ATRP)\, oxidative radical\npo
lymerization\, and reversible addition chain transfer polymerization\n(RAF
 T) applied for grafting of carbon allotropes such as multi-walled\ncarbon
 nanotubes (MWCNT)\, graphene and single-walled carbon nanohorns\n(SWCNH) a
mong other carbons. The main goal of our research is to\ncreate new nanoco
mposites that demonstrate an improved gravimetric\ncapacitance and electro
 chemical stability\, originating from the\nsynergy of a double-layer capac
itance of carbon and pseudo-capacitance\nof redox active polymers. This is
mainly own to the covalent linkage\nbetween carbon and electrochemically
 active molecules.
