Abstract: The North American Oil & Gas industry is going through a phase of profound change that has significant implications for Canada with respect to the economy, the workforce. In the first half of my talk will cover the ways in which the industry at large is reacting to these changes, as well as possible implications for further development of the oil sands reserves in Canada and supporting research and development activities. In the second half, I will use my career path to illustrate some of the career options available in a large oil & gas industry like Shell Canada. I will also discuss our internal programs for new hires (graduates and post-graduates) and the avenues available to pursuing a career with Shell.
Bio: Dr Cécile Siewe is the Manager for Technology Development for Upgrading in the Heavy Oil division of Shell Canada, based at the Shell Technology Centre Calgary. Dr Siewe obtained a BSc in Industrial Chemistry from The City University of London, and PhD in Chemical Engineering from The University of London (Imperial College), and an MBA from the University of Calgary. Before joining Shell, Dr Siewe worked as Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo, as well as BP Research in England, and then as Technology Advisor for Oil & Gas for the Federal Government.
