CHEM 400: Bioanalytical Chemistry

  • Prerequisites: Chem 220, Chem 220L and Chem 237, or permission of the instructor.

Interdisciplinary methods used for the characterization and quantitative analysis of biological samples, with a focus on the quantitation of biological macromolecules. Material includes characterization methods, enzymatic assays using soluble and immobilized enzymes, immunoassay methods, biosensor concepts and applications, and electrophoretic separation and detection. Introduction to additional topics (e.g. centrifugation, mass spectrometry) if time permits.
