"Remarkably diverse catalytic strategies for RNA enzymes"

Abstract: RNA enzymes, or ribozymes, catalyze chemical reactions with a diverse set of catalytic strategies. These include electrostatic stabilization and proton transfer, in which nucleobases, cofactors, and bound metal ions participate in the reaction. Our experimental approaches encompass rapid reaction kinetics, rate-pH profiles, thio effects, and metal ion rescue, which are complemented by a variety of computational approaches. I will describe our latest findings on several small ribozymes as well as our efforts towards a unified view of how ribozymes work.
