Chemistry graduate students win awards at Spring 2015 Convocation

Congratulations to Taylor Urquhart and Stephen Winter who have won awards at Spring 2015 Convocation. Taylor Urquhart won the Dean of Science Award for recognition of creative research as presented in a student's Master's thesis. Stephen Winter won the W.B. Pearson Medal for recognition of creative research as presented in a student's doctoral thesis. Stephen Winter also received the award for outstanding achievement in graduate studies at the doctoral level.

Terry McMahon awarded the 2015 Fred P. Lossing Award for Distinguished Contributions to Mass Spectrometry in Canada

Congratulations to the Dean of Science and Chemistry professor Terry McMahon who has been awarded the 2015 Fred P. Lossing Award for Distinguished Contributions to Mass Spectrometry in Canada by the Canadian Society for Mass Spectrometry. The award will be formally presented at the Lake Louise Mass Spectrometry Workshop in December 2015.

Chemistry Chair Bill Power discusses scientific importance of helium

The recent drop in the Canadian dollar and closure of a US reserve has caused the price of helium to rise.

Although many associate helium with balloons, the element is also important for the scientific and medical communities.

Chemistry Chair Bill Power talked to CTV Kitchener about the use of helium in science.
