The Boat Project

Tuesday, June 28, 2016 11:30 am - Thursday, June 30, 2016 5:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

The evaluation of the CEE fluid mechanics boat project is happening this week. 2B civil students have designed and built small boats using only cardboard and duct tape!  The boats will carry a 3.5 kg concrete cylinder (the 100 x 200 mm cylinders used for material testing of concrete) along a flowing channel and will then receive an additional load of loose ball bearings and river stones until they sink.  The maximum load carried by each boat will be divided by its self-weight to obtain a load-to-weight ratio.  The students are competing to have a stable, straight floating boat with the largest load-to-weight ratio in the class.
