In June of 2014, a new University of Waterloo team to the Sedra Student Design Center was founded under the name of UW Steel Bridge Team. This team will represent the University of Waterloo, internationally, at the annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Conference in the Steel Bridge Competition which will take place in upstate New York. The 2015 ASCE conference will be at West Point Military Academy, NY. In addition to providing team members with relevant experience related to all aspects of bridge engineering, it will also ensure a safe and fun team environment.
The design, fabrication, construction, project management, business and all marketing related to completion of the bridge will be accomplished solely by team members. Additionally, this team will promote the development of intangible skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication and awareness of safety that will be crucial to students’ future professional endeavours.
