The Nile Delta is one of the world’s most vulnerable deltas to climate change and variability, hosting the most fertile land in Egypt and 50% of the Egyptian population (excluding Cairo). The significant role of the Nile Delta to Egypt’s economy and its people is under threat from climatic impacts such as sea level rise and extreme weather events. The Alexandria Research Center for Adaptation to Climate Change (ARCA) was established, in 2011, with support from Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), as a policy-oriented center that aims to close the gap between researchers and government officials. The core team of ARCA is focusing on socioeconomic aspects of adaptation in the Nile Delta which includes assessing primary physical impacts of climate change and sea level rise, as well as their economic value and consequences on communities.
