Climate change is having a profound effect on the environment, especially on the quality and availability of water resources. Water-related natural disasters, such as flooding, drought, and landslides, are more frequent and more severe. Rising temperatures, causing increased evaporation and glacial melt, are reducing the reliability and quality of water supplies. The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Climate Change and Water (CCW) program aims to help the world’s most vulnerable people adapt to the impacts of climate change. Since 2010, the program has supported more than 110 institutions leading research projects in over 50 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin American and the Caribbean. The goal: to support research that improves climate change adaptation efforts, at the policy level and in practice.

Drawing on his experience as an IDRC Program Leader, Mark will profile some of the research carried out by IDRC grantees and highlight some success stories, lessons about the limits of adaptation projects, as well as insights on areas of the climate change adaptation agenda that are not currently adequately addressed.
