From October 31 to November 12, 2021 the world will gather in Glasgow for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 26th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to discuss and negotiate more ambitious action to meet the Paris Agreement commitments. On behalf of the University of Waterloo community, the Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change (IC3) will lead a virtual delegation to COP26 to engage with governments and non-government observers from around the world.

We are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted from Waterloo graduate students for a limited number of accredited spots in the delegation. Interested graduate students should review the eligibility requirements and expectations, and submit their application no later than Tuesday, October 5, 2021.

Waterloo will not be sending any delegates to Glasgow in-person for COP26 due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. While a formal decision from the COP26 Secretariat on the ability of delegations to participate virtually has not yet been announced, IC3 has decided to move ahead with the student application process in anticipation that this will happen soon. We expect that students participating virtually will have exciting opportunities to witness international negotiations, take in dialogues and sessions from leading climate change organizations from around the world, and network with fellow delegates and climate leaders.
