EI Employed: Interview Process - Student has received employment via the co-op interview process.
EJ

Employed: Jointly Arranged - Student has secured employment outside the co-op interview process with the help of Co-operative Education or with an employer who has previously hired from Waterloo. If a student secures employment this way and completes the work term successfully, they will receive credit for that work experience (if that job meets faculty work experience requirements).

NOTE: Students who secure employment this way are subject to the same co-op rules and regulations as if the employment was secured through the campus employment process.

ES

Employed: Student Arranged - Student has secured employment outside the co-op interview process. If a student secures employment this way and completes the work term successfully, they will receive credit for that work experience (if the job meets faculty work experience requirements).

NOTE: Students who secure employment this way are subject to the same co-op rules and regulations as if the employment was secured through the campus employment process.

ER

Employed: Returning - Student has secured employment outside the co-op interview process. If a student secures employment this way and completes the work term successfully, they will receive credit for that work experience (if the job meets faculty work experience requirements).

NOTE: Students who secure employment this way are subject to the same co-op stules and regulations as if the employment was secured through the campus employment process.

UI Unemployed: Interview Process - Student is searching for employment via the co-op interview process. Permits you to search and apply for jobs on WaterlooWorks.
UA

Unemployed: Awaiting Decision - Student has secured, or in the final stages of securing, employment external to the co-op employment process, and in the co-op review process. They must submit a Job Information Form, or you have already submitted it and it is currently under review. Inform an advisor about your arranged job. They will then decide whether or not the job is eligible for credit.

NOTE: Students assigned this status will be blocked from both searching and applying to jobs in WaterlooWorks.

UO

Unemployed: On Own Self-Imposed - Student has been granted a leave of absence and will not receive credit for the work term.

US

Unemployed: Student Arranged - Student has not been fully engaged in the co-op process or has received a penalty that denies you access to WaterlooWorks. You must arrange your own job or discuss a status change with your advisor (listed on your WaterlooWorks dashboard). Reasons for this status include:

  • Not participating in the co-op interview process
  • Not responding to multiple Co-operative Education or employer inquiries
  • Not applying to any jobs by the first day of final exams
  • Not complying with a program regulation or procedure
  • Missing multiple interviews without cause
  • Failing to obtain approval to decline (sign off) an employment opportunity
  • Reneging on a previously agreed-upon offer of employment
  • Failing to honour a commitment to work for an employer or to return to an employer for a second work term

NOTE: Students assigned this status will be blocked from both searching and applying to jobs in WaterlooWorks.

UU

Unemployed: On Own University-Imposed - Assigned on behalf of the student's Faculty to a student who has not met the requirements of the co-op employment process and/or the work term, or is being reprimanded for a non-academic offence as defined by Policy 71. They will not receive credit for the work term (a grade of NCR will be registered on your academic record on Quest) and they may be asked to withdraw from the co-op program (optional co-op programs only).

NOTE: Students assigned this status will be blocked from both searching and applying to jobs in WaterlooWorks.

F

Failed Work Term - Student has not met the requirements for the interview process or the work term. Reasons for this status include:

  • Failing to show up for work

  • Leaving employer without approval

  • Dismissal from job

  • Unacceptable performance

The student will not receive credit for the work term (a grade of NCR will be registered on your academic record on Quest) and they may be asked to withdraw from the co-op program (optional co-op programs only).

X

On Exchange - Student is on an exchange term at an educational institution outside Canada. Two (2) weeks prior to returning to Canada, the student may ask an advisor to amend the status back to UI. If the student finds their own employment and submits a Job Information Form, or returns to a previous employer, they can have their status updated at any time.

NOTE: Students assigned this status will be blocked from both searching and applying to jobs in WaterlooWorks.
