2016 Co-op Students of the Year

By: Matt McTavish, guest writer and co-op student

The Co-op Student of the Year Awards are back for 2017!  We are excited to announce that student applications and employer nominations can be submitted now.

If you have received an ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Excellent’ work term report during your winter or spring work term, or expect to receive one of these ratings this fall, you are encouraged to apply.

Being recognized as one of the top students in your Faculty sets you apart from your peers.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be recognized for all of your hard work outside of your coursework. Winning the Co-op Student of the Year Award has been quite the honour! I am very proud to be recognized for all the hard work and the impact I have left upon my employers. I believe that coming together every year and celebrating Waterloo’s tremendous co-op program makes this award worth it. - Baraa Hamodi, 2016 winter

Here are some benefits of winning the award:

  • Receive a gift certificate redeemable at Waterloo's Retail Services
  • A personal photograph will be taken, which will appear in articles in various university publications
  • Names of the year's recipients of the award will be displayed on a plaque and mounted on the award wall on the ground level of the Tatham Centre
  • The two names chosen by the selection committee from the recipients of the Waterloo award will be submitted to both the EWO and CAFCE 2017 Co-op Student of the Year Awards
  • An amazing achievement to include in your resume

In the application package, you must include your resume and a Personal Statement to be considered for the award.  Your employer will also be required to provide a Supporting Statement, outlining how your contributions helped the organization succeed. Details about this documentation can be found on the CSOTY website.  The deadline for winter and spring 2017 terms is November 30 and January 2 for this current term (fall 2017).

Don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity to set yourself apart from your peers! Please contact Matt McTavish if you have any questions about the awards or the process.
