SUMMARY:Tutte Colloquium -Debbie Leung
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: The embezzlement of entanglement and its applications\n
 \nSpeaker:\n Debbie Leung\n\nAffliation:\n University of Waterloo\n\nZoom:
\n Please email Emma Watson\n\nABSTRACT:\n\nEmbezzlement of entanglement
is the (impossible) task of producing an\nentangled state from a product s
tate via a local change of basis\, when\na suitable *catalytic* entangled
state is available.\n\nThe possibility to approximate this task was first
observed by van Dam\nand Hayden in 2002.  Since then\, the phenomenon is
found to play\ncrucial roles in many aspects of quantum information theory
.  In this\ntalk\, we will discuss aspects of embezzlement and some appli
cations\n(such as why quantum correlations do not form a closed set\, and
why\nthere are nonlocal games that cannot be played optimally with a finit
e\namount of entanglement\, and why additive quantities cannot be more\nth
 an asymptotically continuous).
