SUMMARY:Algebraic Combinatorics Seminar - Terrence George
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Arctic curves for groves\n\nSpeaker:\n Terrence George\
n\nAffiliation:\n University of Michigan\n\nZoom:\n Contact Stephen Melcze
r\n\nABSTRACT:\n\nThe limit shape phenomenon is a \"law of large numbers\"
for random\nsurfaces: the random surface looks macroscopically like the \
"average\nsurface\". The first result of this kind was the celebrated arct
ic\ncircle theorem for domino tilings of the aztec diamond. The limit\nsha
pe has macroscopic regions with different qualitative behavior\, and\nthe
arctic curve is the boundary separating these regions.
