SUMMARY:Optimization: Theory\, Algorithms\, Applications Lecture Series
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: TBA\n\nSpeaker:\n Jacek Gondzio\n\nAffiliation:\n Unive
rsity of Edinburgh\n\nZoom:\n Register through The Fields Institute\n[http
 s://www.fields.utoronto.ca/cgi-bin/register?form_selection=optimization]\n
\nABSTRACT: \n\nHaving briefly introduced the key ideas which make interi
 or point\nmethods (IPMs) such a powerful optimization approach\, I shall f
ocus on\na solution of the Newton systems and in particular on the use of\
niterative (Krylov-subspace) techniques to perform this task.\n\nThe Newto
n systems arising in IPMs are inherently ill-conditioned and\nprecondition
ing is a must to make iterative methods work.\n\nA re-design of IPMs to en
able the use of iterative techniques provides\na completely new perspectiv
e on these methods.\n\nI will address both theoretical and practical aspec
 ts of it.
