SUMMARY:Tutte Colloquium - Amy Wiebe
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Title: Non-realizability of polytopes via linear programming\n\
 nSpeaker:\n Amy Wiebe\n\nAffiliation:\n UBC Okanagan\n\nLocation:\n MC 550
1 or contact Melissa Cambridge for Zoom link\n\nAbstract: A classical ques
tion in polytope theory is whether an\nabstract polytope can be realized a
s a concrete convex object. Beyond\ndimension 3\, there seems to be no con
cise answer to this question in\ngeneral. In specific instances\, answerin
g the question in the negative\nis often done via “final polynomials”
introduced by Bokowski and\nSturmfels. This method involves finding a poly
nomial which\, based on\nthe structure of a polytope if realizable\, must
 be simultaneously zero\nand positive\, a clear contradiction.
