SUMMARY:Tutte Colloquium - Jim Geelen
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Sylvester\, Gallai\, and their complex relatives\n\nSpea
 ker:\n Jim Geelen\n\nAffiliation:\n University of Waterloo\n\nLocation:\n
MC 5501 or contact Melissa Cambridge for Zoom link\n\nABSTRACT: Given any
finite set of points in the real plane\, not all\ncollinear\, there is a l
ine in the plane that contains exactly two of\nthem. This pretty result wa
s conjectured by Sylvester in 1893 and\nproved by Gallai in 1944. We will
present an extension of the result\nto higher dimensional complex spaces a
nd discuss some related\nconjectures. This is joint work with Matthew Kroe
 ker.
