CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Chromatic Symmetric Functions: Combining Algebra and Gra
ph\nTheory\n\nSpeaker:\n Logan Crew\n\nAffiliation:\n University of Waterl
 oo\n\nRoom:\n MC 5479\n\nABSTRACT: The chromatic polynomial\, enumerating
the proper colorings\nof a graph by number of colors used\, was created by
Birkhoff in the\nearly 1900s to study the then Four-Color Conjecture.  I
n the 1990s\,\nStanley generalized this to a chromatic symmetric function\
, which\nfurther counts for each proper n-coloring how many times each of
 the n\ncolors is used.
