SUMMARY:Algebraic and Enumerative Combinatorics Seminar - Jason Bell
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Filtered deformations of commutative algebras\n\nSPEAKER
 :\n Jason Bell\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University of Waterloo\n\nLOCATION:\n MC
6029\n\nNote: There will be no pre-seminar.\n\nABSTRACT: We’ll look at d
ifferent ways of deforming the\nmultiplicative structure of “classical
” algebras to obtain new\nalgebras and explain how this algebraic struct
ure can often be\nunderstood combinatorially.  We’ll then look at a spe
cial class of\nalgebras one can produce this way called filtered deformati
ons and\nwe’ll discuss a conjecture of Etingof which asserts that in pos
itive\ncharacteristic that filtered deformations of commutative rings shou
ld\nbe in some natural sense very close to being commutative themselves.\n
Not much background will be assumed.
