SUMMARY:C&O Special Seminar - Jane Gao
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Evolution of random representable matroids\n\nSPEAKER:\n
 Jane Gao\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University of Waterloo\n\nLOCATION:\n MC 5417\
n\nThere will be light refreshments starting at 3:00 pm.\n\nABSTRACT: Insp
ired by the classical random graph process introduced by\nErdos and Renyi
in 1960\, we introduce two analogous processes for\nrandom representable m
atroids. In the talk we address the following\nquestions\, with answers to
some already established in existing\nliterature\, while others stem from
recent research findings:\n\nHow does the rank of the random matroid evol
ve in the process?\n\nWhen does the first k-circuit appear for each intege
r k? \n\nWhat is the length of the first circuit appearing in the process
?\n\nHow does the connectivity of the matroid change?\n\nWhat is the growt
h rate of the critical number (c.f. chromatic number\nof graphs) in the pr
ocess?\n\nWhen do given (small and large) matroid minors occur in the proc
ess?\n\nHow about the appearance of submatroids?
