SUMMARY:Tutte Colloquium - Luke Postle
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Refined Absorption: A New Proof of the Existence Conject
 ure\n\nSPEAKER:\n Luke Postle\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University of Waterloo\n\n
LOCATION:\n MC 5501\n\nABSTRACT: The study of combinatorial designs has a
rich history\nspanning nearly two centuries.  In a recent breakthrough\,
the\nnotorious Existence Conjecture for Combinatorial Designs dating back\
nto the 1800s was proved in full by Keevash via the method of\nrandomized
 algebraic constructions. Subsequently Glock\, Kühn\, Lo\, and\nOsthus pro
vided an alternate purely combinatorial proof of the\nExistence Conjecture
via the method of iterative absorption.  We\nintroduce a novel method of
“refined absorption” for designs\; in\nthis talk\, as our first appli
cation of the method we provide a new\nalternate proof of the Existence Co
 njecture. Joint work with Michelle\nDelcourt.
