SUMMARY:Graphs and Matroids - Andrew Fulcher
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: The cyclic flats of L-polymatroids\n\nSPEAKER:\n Andrew
 Fulcher\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University College Dublin\n\nLOCATION:\n MC 5417
\n\nABSTRACT: In recent years\, q-polymatroids have drawn interest because
\nof their connection with rank-metric codes. For a special class of\nq-po
lymatroids called q-matroids\, the fundamental notion of a cyclic\nflat ha
s been developed as a way to identify the key structural\nfeatures of a q-
matroid. In this talk\, we will see a generalisation of\nthe definition of
a cyclic flat that can apply to q-polymatroids\, as\nwell as a further ge
 neralisation\, L-polymatroids. The cyclic flats of\nan L-polymatroid is es
sentially a reduction of the data of an\nL-polymatroid such that the L-pol
ymatroid can be retrieved from its\ncyclic flats. As such\, in matroid the
ory\, cyclic flats have been used\nto characterise numerous invariants.
