SUMMARY:Algebraic and Enumerative Combinatorics - Alex Kroitor
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Lattice Paths Through ACSV\n\nSPEAKER:\n Alex Kroitor\n\
 nAFFILIATION:\n University of Waterloo\n\nLOCATION:\n MC 5479\n\nThere wil
l be a pre-seminar presenting relevant background at the\nbeginning gradua
te level starting at 1pm.\n\nABSTRACT: Analytic combinatorics in several v
ariables uses complex\nanalytic results to find coefficients in the series
expansions of\nmeromorphic functions. Typically this is used to find asym
ptotics of\nsequences by examining their associated generating functions.
In the\n2000's Bousquet-Melou (and others) used the kernel method\, introd
uced\nin the late 60s and 70s\, to find generating function expressions (i
n\nterms of certain multivariate rational functions) for certain kinds of\
nwalks in restricted regions. In particular Melczer and Mishna found\nasym
ptotics for these restricted walks when the step sets are\nsymmetric in ev
 ery axis.
