SUMMARY:Graphs and Matroids Seminar - Thomas Lesgourgues
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Ramsey with purple edges\n\nSPEAKER:\n Thomas Lesgourgu
es\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University of Waterloo\n\nLOCATION:\n MC 5479\n\nABST
RACT: Motivated by a question of David Angell\, we study a variant\nof Ra
msey numbers where some edges are coloured with both red and blue\ncolours
\, (i.e. are called ‘purple’ edges). Specifically\, we are\ninterested
 in the largest number g = g(s\, t\, n)\, for some s and t and\nn < R(s\,
t)\, such that there exists a red-blue-purple colouring of Kn\nwith g purp
le edges\, without a red-purple Ks and without a blue-purple\nKt. We deter
mine g asymptotically for a large family of parameters.\nThe talk will be
introductory in nature. Since the concept of\ndouble-coloured edges is new
in this context\, there is a plethora of\nopen questions. Joint work with
 Anita Liebenau and Nye Taylor.
