DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Purifying arbitrarily noisy quantum states\n\nSPEAKER:\
 n Debbie Leung\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University of Waterloo\n\nLOCATION:\n MC
5501\n\nABSTRACT: Quantum state purification is the task of recovering a\
nnearly pure copy of an unknown pure quantum state using multiple noisy\nc
opies of the state. We derive an efficient purification procedure\nbased o
n the swap test for qudits of any dimension\, starting with any\ninitial e
rror parameter. For constant initial error parameter and\ndimension\, our
procedure has sample complexity asymptotically optimal\nin the final error
parameter\, and almost matches the known optimal\nprotocol for qubits. Ou
r protocol has a simple recursive structure\nthat can be applied when the
states are provided one at a time in a\nstreaming fashion\, requiring only
a small quantum memory to\nimplement.  Joint work with Andrew Childs\, H
 onghao Fu\, Zhi Li\, Maris\nOzols\, Vedang Vyas. \n\n
