DESCRIPTION:TITLE:Sufficient conditions for equality of skew Schur function
 s\n\nSpeaker\n Nick Olson-Harris\n\nAffiliation\n University of Waterloo\n
\nLocation\n MC 5479\n\n ABSTRACT: : A pair of skew shapes are said to be
skew equivalent if\nthey admit the same number of semistandard Young tabl
eaux of each\nweight\, or in other words if the skew Schur functions they
define are\nequal. A conjecture of McNamara and van Willigenburg gives nec
essary\nand sufficient combinatorial conditions for shapes to be skew\nequ
ivalent\, but neither direction was known to hold in general. We\nprove su
fficiency. The techniques used are Hopf-algebraic in spirit\nand extend id
eas used by Yeats to prove a simple case.\n\nTHERE WILL BE A PRE-SEMINAR P
RESENTING RELEVANT BACKGROUND AT THE\nBEGINNING GRADUATE LEVEL STARTING AT
  1PM\,
