SUMMARY:Algebraic and enumerative combinatorics seminar-Katie Waddle
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Spherical friezes\n\nSpeaker\n Katie Waddle\n\nAffiliat
 ion\n University of Michigan\n\nLocation\n MC 5479\n\n ABSTRACT: A fundam
ental problem in spherical distance geometry aims\nto recover an $n$-tuple
of points on a 2-sphere in $\\mathbb{R}^3$\,\nviewed up to oriented isome
try\, from $O(n)$ input measurements. This\ntalk will discuss an algebraic
solution to this problem using only the\nfour arithmetic operations. We w
ill show how a new type of frieze\npattern can be employed to arrange the
measurement data. These friezes\nexhibit glide symmetry and a version of t
he Laurent phenomenon.\n\nTHERE WILL BE A PRE-SEMINAR PRESENTING RELEVANT
BACKGROUND AT THE\nBEGINNING GRADUATE LEVEL STARTING AT 1PM\,
