SUMMARY:Algebraic & Enumerative Combinatorics - Santiago Estupiñán
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:TITLE: Jeu de Taquin for Mixed Insertion and a Problem of Sooj
in Cho\n\nSPEAKER:\n Santiago Estupiñán\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University of
Waterloo\n\nLOCATION:\n MC 5417\n\nABSTRACT: \n\nSerrano (2010) introduce
d the shifted plactic monoid\, governing\nHaiman's (1989) mixed insertion
algorithm\, as a type B analogue of the\nclassical plactic monoid that con
nects jeu de taquin of Young tableaux\nwith the Robinson–Schensted–Knu
th insertion algorithm. Serrano\nproposed a corresponding definition of sk
ew shifted plactic Schur\nfunctions. Cho (2013) disproved Serrano's conjec
ture regarding this\ndefinition\, by showing that the functions do not liv
e in the desired\nring and hence cannot provide an algebraic interpretatio
n of tableau\nrectification or of the corresponding structure coefficients
. Cho\nasked for a new definition with particular properties. We introduce
\nsuch a definition and prove that it behaves as desired. We also\nintrodu
ce the first jeu de taquin theory that computes mixed\ninsertion. This is
joint work with Oliver Pechenik.\n\nThere will be a pre-seminar presenting
relevant background at the\nbeginning graduate level starting at 1:30pm i
n MC 5417.
