SUMMARY:Crypto Reading Group - Pranshu Kumar-Generic Transformations for\nU
 pdatable PKEs
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:SPEAKER:\n\n Pranshu Kumar\n\nAFFILIATION:\n University of Wate
 rloo\n\nLOCATION:\n MC 6029\n\nABSTRACT:Updatable Public-Key Encryption (U
PKE) augments the security\nof PKE with Forward Secrecy properties. It was
originally proposed by\nJost et al. (EUROCRYPT 2019) to provide security
guarantees in secure\nmessaging applications efficiently. Later\, Alwen et
al. (CRYPTO 2020)\nshowed that TreeKEM\, when used for Continuous Group K
ey Agreement\n(CGKA) in Message Layer Security (MLS)\, failed to achieve a
dequate\nsecurity and proposed using UPKEs to modify TreeKEM. Since then\,
UPKEs\nhave become a part of the Message Layer Security specification\, a
nd\ntheir security properties have been extensively studied. Alwen\,\nFuch
 sbauer\, and Mularczyk (AFM\, Eurocrypt’24) presented the\nstrongest sec
urity notion to date\, adding many additional properties\nthat strengthen
its security in CGKA and MLS.
