Summer school | combinatorics

Sunday, July 5, 2009 8:30 am - Monday, July 6, 2009 8:30 am EDT (GMT -04:00)

Sign in: Breakfast and sign in will be on Monday at 8:30 AM in William G. Davis Computer Research Centre (DC) 1301 (The Fishbowl).

Primary speaker: Carsten Thomassen, Technical University of Denmark

Other speakers and tutorial leaders will be faculty members and graduate students in the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization. There will be eight presentations, two by Carsten Thomassen, Technical University of Denmark, and others by Robin Christian, Mathieu Guay-Paquet, Nick Harvey, Penny Haxell, David Wagner, Nick Wormald, all from the Combinatorics and Optimization (C and O) Department.

The aim is to provide undergraduate students in mathematics or computer science with an introduction to combinatorics, giving the students a flavour of research that is ongoing in the department. This will include talks and guided tutorials in graph theory, combinatorial algorithms and algebraic combinatorics.

There is no registration fee. Meals will be provided for all participants. We will also provide support for travel and other local expenses for a number of students from outside Waterloo. This should make it convenient to stay in Waterloo for the remainder of the week in order to attend the Canadian Undergraduate Mathematics Conference July 6 - 10.

The summer school will run from 9:30 - 5:00 on Monday July 5 and 9:00 - 4:00 on Tuesday July 6. The schedule for the Summer School is available.
