Undergraduate Communication Requirement

Also referred to as the English Language Proficiency Requirement, the Communication Requirement is a mandatory milestone that all undergraduate students generally meet in their first or second year of study.

In study and work terms, communication skills and strategies are crucial to success. All University of Waterloo undergraduate students have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate writing and communication skills throughout their time at Waterloo.

The Communication Requirement helps prepare students for academic and professional success. Each Faculty has its own guidelines for how its students can meet the Communication Requirement.

PLEASE NOTE: The English Language Proficiency Exam (ELPE) will not be offered past Winter 2019. The last ELPE exam session will be held in April 2019.
