Pharmacy acts as rest stop for local fundraising walk for homelessness

On Saturday, February 25, the School of Pharmacy welcomed hundreds of cold and brave members of the community looking for a quick break and a cup of hot chocolate. The School was a rest stop for the Kitchener-Waterloo Coldest Night of the Year walk, organized by Ray of Hope Community Center.

How do you feed 200 people? How about starting with 200 bread bowls, 23 pounds of beef, 40 bunches of lettuces and 9 pounds of potatoes?

Those were just some of the many ingredients that School of Pharmacy faculty and staff purchased for Jan 27’s Community Centre Meal. Working with the Ray of Hope Community Centre, the School fundraised and coordinated the preparation and serving of meals for the needful in Kitchener.

On November 4, 2016 over 30 University of Waterloo student and staff volunteers spent the morning at Schlegel Villages, University Gates engaging with senior residents in a range of fun activities in celebration of this year’s Random Act of Kindness Day (RAK Day) campaign. Partnering with The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation for the fourth year in a row, RAK Day seeks to create a more caring and empathic community, inviting everyone to come together to pay it forward.

When Waterloo residents heard knocks on their doors this past Halloween, they discovered that one group of trick-or-treaters wasn’t asking for candy. A total of 82 participants from the University of Waterloo joined the Trick-or-Eat initiative organized by the Federation of Students.

Friday, November 4, 2016 marked the fourth consecutive year the University of Waterloo has partnered with The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation to spread kindness on our campuses and in the community, along with over 250 communities across Canada.
