Pharmacy acts as rest stop for local fundraising walk for homelessness

On Saturday, February 25, the School of Pharmacy welcomed hundreds of cold and brave members of the community looking for a quick break and a cup of hot chocolate. The School was a rest stop for the Kitchener-Waterloo Coldest Night of the Year walk, organized by Ray of Hope Community Center.

Kicking off the Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters dialogues on Sunday, the University of Waterloo’s research strengths in climate change, natural disasters and flood mitigation were highlighted by Jean Andrey, dean of the Faculty of Environment, during her opening remarks at the launch event.

Key takeaways for a healthier campus and community

Last Wednesday, October 6, the Equity Office hosted Mike Dormitz, founder of The Date Safe Project, on campus to speak to an audience of over 100 people about significant issues surrounding consent and healthy relationships. Students, faculty, and staff, along with members of the Waterloo community, listened intently to his talk titled, Can I Kiss You? Through his use of interactive humour and charisma, Mike engaged in valuable discussions with attendees, leaving a lasting impact on the well-being of our community.

Free themed tours captivate our community

This Wednesday, members of our community came to campus to take part in two fascinating science-themed tours.

The Earth Sciences Museum at the University of Waterloo’s Centre for Environmental and Information Technology is currently home to a prehistoric playhouse, offering free Dinosaur Tours from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday throughout the month of July. Open to people of all ages, no matter what your level of learning, the museum continues to amaze the general public, elementary and high school groups, and university students alike with interesting facts, new information, and authentic historical findings.

UWaterloo glows at the 2015 Toronto Pride Parade

Over 60 University of Waterloo students, faculty and staff marched in the rain to show their support during the 2015 Toronto Pride Parade. Held on June 28, the event featured a line of spectacular displays and lively music in the downtown core.

Accessible performance brings Sound of Music to life for low-vision community

This past Sunday, June 21, a mixture of staff and faculty from the University of Waterloo’s Low Vision Clinic accompanied over 20 members of our community to the Stratford Festival for an accessible, live audio described performance of The Sound of Music.

Science partners with Waterloo Region Museum on Ocean Bound! Exhibit

This past winter, the Faculty of Science teamed up with the Waterloo Region Museum to create two displays for the new Ocean Bound! exhibit. This collaboration, formed with Waterloo’s Earth Sciences Museum and the Students of the Water Institute Graduate Section (SWIGS), aimed to educate the public about ocean watersheds, aquatic animals and ecosystems.

Canada Day Celebration Announcement

Each year, the University of Waterloo and our Federation of Students thank our community for its partnership and mutual support by hosting Waterloo Region's flagship Canada Day Celebration. Canada Day 2014 marked the 30th anniversary of our celebration, with more than 60,000 people in attendance, and we’re building another exceptional event for our community this year.
