Posts for the Topic outreach

From public lectures to signature celebrations such as Canada Day, we're honoured to invite our community to the University of Waterloo.

Each year over 31,000 students attend the University of Waterloo and call Waterloo Region their home.

On September 3, as part of Orientation week, Waterloo's Student Success Office and the Federation of Students planned an evening of fun and activities out in our community called World of Waterloo.

The Terry Fox Run

Terry Fox was a first-year kinesiology student at Simon Fraser University and only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer).  As a result he was forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres above the knee.

While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children, that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

Stargazing at Waterloo

Despite the unpredictable weather the stars aligned and the skies cleared just in time for the University of Waterloo’s annual Perseid Stargazing Party.  Over 200 members of the local community joined Waterloo’s Faculty of Science and local Royal Astronomical Society of Canada members as they hosted a stargazing party at the University’s Columbia Lake Fields.
