SUMMARY:Computational Math Colloquium | Brendan Lucier\, AI Agents in Econo
 mic\nEnvironments
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Many online platforms have associated algorithmic tools that ca
 n\noptimize on a user's behalf\, such as algorithmic bidders or price\nopt
imizers.  Recent advances in agentic AI enable even more use cases\nfor L
LM-powered tools and advice.  But as algorithmic assistance\nbecomes incr
easingly common\, how will users strategically maneuver\ntheir usage of th
ese tools\, and what will be the system-wide impact?\n\n \n\nIn this talk
we will address these questions through a game-theoretic\nlens.  We will
explore applications of strategic AI agent usage\, from\nadvertising auct
ions to persuasion and sales.  Viewing algorithmic\nagents as components
of a broader system\, we will discuss ways to\nmathematically model agent
interaction and predict equilibrium\noutcomes.  Along the way\, we will s
tudy the strategic choices of the\nusers who control the agents (and who a
nticipate their use by\nothers).  We will also discuss implications for p
latform and AI agent\ndesign.\n\n \n\nBased on joint work with Yiding Fen
 g\, Keegan Harris\, Nicole Immorlica\,\nand Alex Slivkins
