 puter Science_\n\nCloud storage systems typically choose between replicati
 ng or erasure\nencoding data to provide fault tolerance. Replication ensur
 es that\ndata can be accessed from a single site but incurs a much higher\
 nstorage overhead\, which is a costly downside for large-scale storage\nsy
 stems. Erasure coding has a lower storage requirement but relies on\nencod
 ing/decoding and distributed data retrieval that can result in\nincreased 
 response times.
