SUMMARY:Seminar • Systems and Networking — RFID Hacking for Fun and Pro
 fit
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:JU WANG\, POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW\n_David R. Cheriton School of Co
mputer Science_\n\nPassive radio frequency identification (RFID) tags are
ubiquitous\ntoday due to their low cost (a few cents)\, relatively long\nc
ommunication range (7–11 m)\, ease of deployment\, lack of battery\,\nan
d small form factor. This talk shows how even hobbyists can\ntransform com
modity RFID tags into sensors by physically altering\n('hacking') them usi
ng COTS sensors and a pair of scissors.\nImportantly\, this requires no ch
 ange to commercial RFID readers.
