Technovation Girls Waterloo Workshops

Teams must register in order to attend the workshops. Drop-ins will not be admitted. Tickets are NOT transferrable to other attendees. Attendees must register so that parental consent can be gathered.

Kick-off Workshop — Saturday, January 11, 2020
Registration is open

This workshop introduces the Technovation Challenge and Ideation. Students and mentors will have a chance to meet and form teams.

Thunkable part 1 — Saturday, January 18, 2020
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Registration will open closer to the date

This workshop will cover several features of the Thunkable coding tool. Assistance will be provided on how to set up Thunkable.

Thunkable part 2 — Saturday, January 25, 2020

This workshop will continue to look at the features of the Thunkable coding tool.

User Experience and Design Workshop — Saturday, February 1, 2020
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Registration will open closer to the date

In this workshop, teams learn how to use and test paper prototyping to design an effective user interface for their app. Teams will also learn about the importance of defining a minimal viable product.

Pre-requisites for the workshop: Teams should have chosen the idea for their app.


Business Workshop — Saturday, February 22, 2020
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Registration will open closer to the date

In this workshop, senior division teams will also learn about how to make a business plan while the junior division learns how to generate revenue from their app. Please note that these sessions will be run in separate spaces.

Pre-requisites for the workshop: Teams should have begun development of their app.


Pitch Video and Group-work Workshop 1 — Saturday, March 7, 2020
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

In this workshop, teams will learn how to make an effective pitch video. Teams may consult with coaches to get advice on any issues they are encountering with their app development. Teams may consult with coding coaches, User Interface coaches, Pitch Video coaches and Business Coaches.

Group-work Workshop 2 — Saturday, March 28, 2020

Waterloo Regional Pitch Event — Saturday, May 16, 2020
Registration is by invitation only. Submit your entry to the Technovation Challenge to receive your invitation.
