Julia Fung

In first year, I wish I knew that my grades were important but that connecting with my peers and maintaining my own mental/physical health was also important.

Involvement outside the classroom: Contemporary/Jazz/Technical Dance Classes, Weightlifting, Residence Council (VP of Finance in my 1A and 1B terms), Residence life.

I enjoy...

  • Visual art
  • Playing the cello
  • Dance
  • Board games with friends

Fun fact: I broke my foot at the one and only Hackathon I ever attended (Hack the North 2016) ... yeah.

Favourite place to study: Starbucks inside AHS

Favourite place to eat in Waterloo: Ken House Sushi

Memorable co-op experience: I was a member of the accounting and finance group for LOGiQ3 Corp. This was an extremely small team but that became an advantage as I was able to get up close to the financial statements and become involved in work that the junior and senior accountants did themselves. I had my own projects as well. My favorite one was creating automated invoicing using VBA. I had no experience in the language but by the end of the term they were able to run my macro and create invoices faster than before.

Plans for life after CFM: I plan to work towards the CFA and maybe the CPA designation. I have looked into Masters programs for after I complete CFM to help  with CPA preparation.
