A message from the Student Success Office.
Throughout July, more than 2,000 incoming first-year students, and 1800 of their family members, visited campus to participate in Faculty 101 Days. Attendees represented approximately 25 percent of the Fall 2019 incoming students.
Each of the Faculty 101 Days included sample lectures, information sessions with study skills and note-taking tips, and expert panels. Students, and their parents or family members, were also able to drop in at services around campus, like The Centre, WatCard Office, and AccessAbility Services, or to purchase black and gold gear from the W Store.
Feedback from a student who attended their Faculty 101 Day indicates how successful the events were: “It was so much fun while still being educational. It is really making me look forward to starting in the fall.”
A parent who attended shared that their favourite part was “hearing about all the things my daughter did and people she connected with during our drive back home.” This parent went on to say, “Thank you for providing it. I wish all universities did this. It was well organized and the student guides/leaders were friendly and helpful.”
Registration is now open for fall 2019 students to sign up for Orientation Week to prepare them for the start of the school year in September. Orientation Week runs from August 31 to September 7 with activities and events organized for new students to feel supported during their transition to university life. All students are welcome to register to attend.
A few days before Orientation Week, international students are invited to participate in International Orientation from August 29 to 31. The three days leading up to September will include transportation pick up from the airport, early move in and events and activities to meet other international students. Registration is required.
