Adam Mamdani, Regional Vice President, Brokerage Sales, RBC

Adam MamdaniAbout Adam

Adam Mamdani’s propensity for leadership began in high school, when he served as student council vice president. Given his passion for working with people and his interest in finance and sales, business was a natural fit.

Adam’s Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University gave him a strong background in traditional business skills as well as three terms of work experience in the finance divisions of major companies. However, the missing piece in his business education was entrepreneurship.

The Masters of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (MBET) provided Adam with the opportunity to pursue a degree with a masters of business component, while also building entrepreneurship skills he would not get in an MBA program.

Following MBET, Adam started his own business as an independent financial planner contracted through Sun Life Financial. His success caught the eye of the Sun Life Head Office, who invited him to take on a managerial role, working as an employee of Sun Life.

Adam steadily grew his Sun Life career, rising from Associate Manager tasked with growing one of the largest Sun Life offices in Canada, to Director of Career Sales Force Growth, and eventually serving on the senior management team of the Scarborough Sun Life Financial Centre. As Senior Associate Partner, he provided overall leadership and strategy for the business, as well as coaching, training and development of the team of 60 advisors.

Currently, Adam is Regional Vice President, Brokerage Sales, at RBC. In this role, he is responsible for driving strong sales results, building a high performing sales team of Senior Sales/Wealth Consultants, and managing key distributor partnerships in the Central Region (Ontario) for RBC Insurance.

Impact of MBET

MBET equipped Adam with the skills he needed to run his own financial planning business as well as succeed in leadership and management positions within existing companies.

The finance and accounting courses helped him gain a thorough understanding of ‘the numbers’ aspect of running a business, from calculating operating costs to determining how much to reinvest in one’s business. The marketing courses taught him how to differentiate himself from thousands of other financial planners and gain the credibility to solicit customers.

Overall, the value of MBET was that it taught Adam to understand how a business works from its foundations, which is crucial to the success of intrapreneurs and entrepreneurs alike.

MBET is different than an MBA – not only do they teach you to be a successful manager, they also teach you to be a successful entrepreneur, who can attract other managers to be successful.
