Student blog: taking the leap of faith

Georgina DA year ago I was working for a local waterloo startup as a business development specialist. I deeply loved my job and my colleagues and was never really considering going back to school. One day, I met with an old friend for coffee, this friend was a student in the MBET program and could not stop talking about the program! I decided I wanted to learn more so I got in touch with some alumni and spoke with current students. I knew this program was right up my alley, but I was still unsure about leaving my great job. I took the leap of faith and applied to MBET and I can honestly say it was the best decision I could have made. MBET has enriched my life in 3 ways:

1.  Classmates
The quality of students that MBET attracts are entrepreneurial, driven, and inspiring. I have learned so much about myself by working with these amazing individuals. They inspire me to be a better person and support me to push past my limits. The program revolves largely around teamwork, which is both challenging and fulfilling.

2.  Hands on learning
The practicum component of MBET is one of the main reasons I decided to join the program. I love the startup environment and working collaboratively to build a business from the ground up. There are many resources available as an MBET student that have helped my practicum team move forward. My teammates have diverse backgrounds and teach me something new every single day. Not to mention, we get to work on a very cool idea (check out Milao Language: www.milaolanguage.com).

3.  Alumni and resources
The advisory board, alumni, and relationship with Communitech have helped not only myself, but my practicum team grow and open our eyes to new opportunities. The alumni and advisory board members I have reached out to have been extremely helpful and open to giving great advice.

I am very happy I made the choice to leave my job and join MBET. It has been an incredible experience and I’m only half way through!
