We had our biggest win … and it was not monetary.
For those of you that are not familiar with LaunchPad50K: it is an investment competition organized by the Golden Triangle Angel Network (GTAN). The eight finalist teams pitched for $50k (first place), $30k (second place) and $20k (third place) to an audience of over 100 investors at Conestoga College's Cambridge campus. I can proudly say that the Master of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MBET) program was well represented at this event, our own Fiist and S3Solar being among the final eight as well.
So what went on at LaunchPad50k? - Eight amazing businesses, many great people, some pretty good food and free beer and wine. Not a bad way to spend a Friday afternoon. Team Milao had a great time!
As for the competition itself: it was tough, but we had a lot fun pitching to the crowd at LaunchPad. We made them laugh and we even taught them some Spanish essentials. The audience seemed to enjoy themselves, and so did we; but, we didn't win … money, that is.
The Milao win came with a simple statement from one of the audience members that approached us at the end of the event: “you guys really made me want to learn Spanish”, he said. We may have not won the prize, but we did win at least one of our very first customers. Because as good as investment money is, there is nothing that a startup wants more than excited early customers that believe in your product.
A big thank you goes to this first believer in our technology. We have made it our goal to not let you down and deliver a product that will meet all of your expectations.
Lastly, Team Milao would like to thank all of the people that supported us on Friday, especially the Conrad family that has made all of this possible for us. We will not let you down!
