Waterloo to Mountain View: Conrad alumni thrive at Y Combinator

Y Combinator logo

2014 has thus far been a very successful year for Conrad Centre alumni. Among the many achievements of past and present students were three acceptances into the coveted Y Combinator (YC) program. This year three companies led by Conrad alumni, Piinpoint, TicketLabs, and GamePress, packed up their belongings in Waterloo, and moved to Mountain View, California, to take part in the exclusive program. Piinpoint was founded by Adam Saunders and Jim Robeson, Master of Business, Entrepreneruship and Technology (MBET) alumnus; TicketLabs was co-founded by Ian Roberts and Patrick Hannigan, Enterprise Co-op (E Co-op) alumnus; and GamePress was founded by E Co-op alumnus Behroz Saadat, and his cousins, Hamad and Murtaza Saadat.

Techtoberfest takeaways: bringing together entrepreneurs and VCs

Jim Robeson speaking at Techtoberfest

On October 16th and 17th, students, faculty, staff, and alumni from Conrad attended Communitech's Techtobefest: VC Edition. During this two-day event, Kitchener-Waterloo's annual Oktoberfest celebration is given a tech twist by the local startup community, offering learning sessions, keynote speakers, panel sessions, one-on-one meetings with investors and venture capitalists (VCs), and plenty of sausage and sauerkraut.

From wearable tech to fundraising solutions: The 2015 MBET practicums

The commercialization practicum is one of the defining components of the Master of Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (MBET) program. The eight-month practicum allows students to apply classroom knowledge to real businesses, immersing them into the world of entrepreneurship. It is once again that time of year when MBET candidates select the businesses to which they will contribute over the coming months.

Five days, countless ideas: What's Your Idea Week recap

The Conrad Centre is a proud sponsor of the University of Waterloo's Entrepreneurship Society, a student-run group that is aimed at the promotion of entrepreneurship on campus by bringing like-minded people together. To ring in the new academic term, the society hosted What's Your Idea Week. With an event scheduled each day, students were encouraged to explore their entrepreneurial ideas, and connect with others in the community.
